Melissa Ball

1. Where are you living and what are you doing currently?

I am living in Seattle, Washington as a member of the United States Coast Guard. I work on a 378 foot cutter, where I handle lines, steer the ship, ensure the security and safety of the ship, and respond to emergencies.

2. What accomplishments have you made since working at The Tutoring Center? (e.g. graduated, traveled, etc.)

Since I left The Tutoring Center, I graduated basic training for the US Coast Guard, and moved to Seattle, Washington. During this time, I have spent months living on a ship in the middle of the Bering Sea, enduring rough seas and keeping people safe. I have visited San Diego, California; Kodiak, Alaska; Dutch Harbor, Alaska (where the Deadliest Catch fishermen work!); and Nome, Alaska. I have even been inside the Arctic Circle!

3. Have you won any awards?

I haven't won any awards, but I have participated in a few ceremonies. I am a certified Golden Plankowner, Golden Dragon, and Blue Nose sailor in the Coast Guard. I am also certified to load and shoot our 25mm machine gun!

4. How would you say your experience at The Tutoring Center supported your current success?

The Tutoring Center inspired me to help people in any way that I can. I saw firsthand how The Tutoring Center helped so many students achieve so much. I joined the Coast Guard in order to help even more people, by dedicated my life to saving others. I have also spent time tutoring my co-workers to help them succeed in college courses they are taking on the side!

5. What else would you like your former students and co-workers to know?

I would like my former students and co-workers to know that I truly miss working there and seeing them every day. The Tutoring Center continues to do great things without me, and I am proud to say that I have worked there.
