A healthy diet is paramount for proper physical development, but it’s also crucial for mental development too. The Tutoring Center in Flower Mound would like to provide you with some tips for superfoods that will benefit your child.

Spinach is a great source of calcium, folic acid, iron, and vitamins A and C. These are all fantastic for a child’s growing brain and body. It’s also really easy to include in a wide variety of dishes. You can add spinach to almost any tomato-based sauce (pasta sauces, salsas for tacos and quesadillas, etc.) as its subtle taste is easily-disguised.

Sweet potatoes are a great source of energy as they release glucose slowly throughout the day, avoiding imbalanced blood sugar. They’re also stuffed full of vitamins and potassium.Sweet potatoes can be used in place of standard potatoes in a lot of dishes; try sweet potato fries, baked sweet potatoes, or sweet potato hash browns.

Blueberries are simply great for overall health. They’re crammed with antioxidants which have been shown to help fight illness, and they are full of vitamins.

Oatmeal is a good breakfast staple, as it provides energy for the whole day and will help your child feel fuller for longer than many other breakfast cereals. Add banana, apple, or any other fresh fruit for added flavor and nutrition.

Yogurt provides protein and calcium which are both crucial for a growing body and mind. It also makes for a wonderfully simple breakfast; simply toss some granola and fresh fruit onto some yogurt and you’re ready to go.

Salmon, especially wild salmon, is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These have been shown to be critical for good cardiovascular health and mental function. You can easily make salmon sticks, a surefire hit with children, by cutting your fillets into strips and lightly frying them.

Avocados are brimming with fiber and healthy fats, so they’re a great digestive aid and are brilliant for your heart and your brain. You could try tossing an avocado into smoothies or soups for a beautiful creamy texture, or of course it’s a prime ingredient in a number of Mexican recipes.

Once you and your child are on the right track to healthy eating, you might find that he/she still needs some academic assistance.
